Important tourist center. Poneloya is a fishing village with a single street parallel to the sea; and a center of summer houses. The beach is irregular and has dark sand, and shows palm trees that complete its tropical beach appearance. It is known by Nicaraguans as a beach whose waters have strong currents and waves that break strongly on the sand. It has an estuary that It becomes very dangerous when the tide is high, but when the tide is low there is no problem for bathers. The estuary can be accessed on foot and is located at the end of the long street, near the place where all the bars and restaurants are. During seasons such as Holy Week, Christmas and New Year's parties, and the celebration of the Purisima ; Poneloya presents some very attractive nightlife among young people. From there you can take a tour to the Isla Juan Venado nature reserve.
